Leadership - A Component of 4-H Youth Development


Definitions


  Concrete operational thinking
distinct learning or cognitive ability of 7-12 year old youth
  Coordination
the condition allowing for effective movement of the body
  Critical reasoning skills
the gradual advance or growth through progressive changes dealing with the process of exercising judgement or evaluation
  Cultural development
being cognizant and mindful of the beliefs, customs, arts, and institutions of a society. This includes 4-H youth citizenship and international programs.
  Decision-making skills
the gradual advance or growth through progressive changes in the ability to come to a conclusion or to make a choice.
  Development of values
the gradual advance or growth through progressive changes dealing with the acquisition of principles of behavior held to be intrinsically valuable or desirable.
  Family relationships
states of affairs existing between members of a household.
  Formal operational thinking
distinct learning or cognitive styles of youth generally age 13 and older
  Leadership
a broad concept related to the knowledge, attitudes, skills, and aspirations utilized by one or more persons in influencing, motivating, inspiring and otherwise causing desired actions and reactions by others
  Peer relationships
states of affairs existing between similar age-cohorts or individuals of the same status
  Physical development
the process of growth and development of the body.
  Problems of youth
areas causing concern and stress in youth including social, physical, emotional problems
  Emotional development
the process of human mental development as manifested in behavior and personality
  Social development
the growth through progressive changes dealing with the interaction of people and establishing and disseminating principles of rightful and wrongful conduct or behavior
