State 4-H Ambassadors at the Ohio State Fair
State 4-H Ambassadors from all across Ohio came to last summer's Ohio State help
4-H Youth Development Staff members with 45 different events
at the Ohio State Fair. There were
over 120 separate leadership tasks performed by Ambassadors
at these events.
The training given to Ambassadors earlier in the year (see
Ambassador Orientation) in the areas of public speaking,
working with elected officials, being a positive role model
and effective communications was definitely utilized at
the fair.
Also, there was an additional area at the Ohio State
Fair that Ambassadors assisted with 4-H Youth Development
information and activities. For the first time, an "Ohio
4-H Educational Center" was located at the State
Fair. As part of the center, there was a white, wooden
gazebo set up to provide free 4-H educational materials
for fair goers. And there was a tent set up next to the
gazebo where Ambassadors taught free educational activities
four times a day to youth at the fair who stopped by
to learn more about youth development and science.
As a result of having an Ohio 4-H Education Center, over
3,000 people were able to receive some type of printed
4-H Youth Development information and over 200 youth
were able to participate in some type of educational
activity at the Ohio State Fair.
