4-H CARTEENS "Jeopardy" Style Game on Ohio Laws and Traffic Signs

Directions:  Arrange the following questions on a "Jeopardy" style game board, and play similarly to the Jeopardy game on television.  Click HERE for a word document with the following questions, to be edited as needed for your game board.

 

 

Orange Category:

 

200 points:

  Question: True or false. Passengers in the back seat must wear safety belts.

  Answer: True

 

400 points:

  Question: What is the speed limit in a school zone?

  Answer: 20 miles per hour

 

600 points:

  Question: What is the first thing you do at a car crash?

  Answer: Stop and take immediate steps to warn oncoming traffic, phone police officers and get the person's vehicular information.

 

800 points:

  Question: Vehicles moving slower than traffic flow must drive in which lane?

  Answer: Right lane only

 

1000 points:

  Question: Name the two 2-point violations.

  Answer: All moving violations, operating a vehicle while restricted by the BMV.

 

 

Blue Category:

 

200 points:

  Question: You are generally best not to pass on the right. When is this an exception?

  Answer: a) When the vehicle being overtaken is making a left-hand turn.

b) When the pavement is wide enough for two or more lanes of traffic moving in the same direction.

 

400 points:

  Question: How old must you be to ride in the bed of an unenclosed pickup truck?

  Answer: 16 years old

 

600 points:

  Question: What is the symbol reserved for a slow moving vehicle?

  Answer: An orange triangle with a red border. (Draw the sign.)

 

800 points:

  Question: Are underglow lights legal in the State of Ohio ?

  Answer: No. They did not come standard on the vehicle from the factory.

 

1000 points:

  Question: A flashing red traffic signal at an intersection indicates what?

  Answer: You are required to stop.

 

 

Yellow Category:

 

200 points:

  Question: What are things you must do when passing on a two-lane road?

  Answer: Use turn signals and honk your horn.

 

400 points:

  Question: How long is your temporary license valid?

  Answer: One year only (then you start over).

 

600 points:

  Question: Draw the traffic sign: TRAFFIC MERGING FROM RIGHT.

  Answer: See page 53 in BMV book.

 

800 points:

  Question: Describe the “move over law”.

  Answer: When a public safety vehicle is on the side of the road, you must change lanes to ensure the safety of the officer.

 

1000 points:

  Question: Draw the road sign using the proper color markers for a “Downhill grade sign”.

  Answer: Truck going downhill to the left yellow diamond shape with black truck and hill.

 

 

Red Category:

 

200 points:

  Question: What must you possess to be considered a legal owner of a vehicle?

  Answer: title (your name on it), registration, vehicle insurance, and a valid driver's license.

 

400 points:

  Question: How many points over a period of how many years must be accumulated to lose your driver's license?

  Answer: 12 points over a two-year period.

 

600 points:

  Question: What is a CDL?

  Answer: Commercial driver's license.

 

800 points:

  Question: True or False. It is legal to go around railroad gates that appear to be malfunctioning and will not come back up, when you do not detect a train approaching.   

  Answer: False.

 

1000 points:

  Question: What is the legal BAC for persons under the age of 21?

  Answer: 0.0%

 

Green Category:

 

200 points:

  Question: Identify this Sign. “U-turns are not permitted”.   

  Answer: Page 57 in the BMV booklet.

 

400 points:

  Question: Your Ohio driver's license expires when?

  Answer: On your fourth birthday after the issue date.

 

600 points:

  Question: How long must a turn signal be displayed when changing lanes?

  Answer: 2 to 3 seconds or 100 feet.

 

800 points:

  Question: Name three of the six point violations.

  Answer: Vehicular homicide, OVI, Hit and run, Running from police officers, Drag racing, Theft, Operating a vehicle when license is under suspension, using a car to commit a felony.

 

1000 points:

  Question: What are two things you should do if you feel tired while driving?

  Answer: Play radio, engage in light conversation, stop to stretch your legs, and have a cold drink or coffee.

 

 

Black category:

200 points:

  Question: Name two situations when you must yield.

  Answer: When directed by signal, when entering a highway, pedestrians at the crosswalk, funeral procession, public safety vehicle, to oncoming traffic when making a left turn, to traffic approaching an intersection before making a right turn at a red light.

400 points:

  Question: Name two counties that require E-Check, excluding Butler and Warren.

  Answer: Clark, Clermont, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Greene, Hamilton , Lake, Loraine, Medina , Montgomery , Portage , and Summit .

600 points:

  Question: When driving in fog, should you use high or low beam lights?

  Answer: Low

800 points:

  Question: What is the minimum tread depth on a vehicle's tire?

  Answer: 1/16 th of an inch or (top of Lincoln 's head on a penny.)

1000 points:

  Question: Draw using the proper colors and shape: ONE LANE BRIDGE AHEAD sign.

  Answer: Yellow diamond with ONE LANE BRIDGE written on the sign.

 

Bonus questions:

 

Bonus 1

  Question: Draw using the proper colors and shape the sign indicating that there is a hospital nearby.

  Answer: A blue square with a white border and a capital white H inside with a white arrow under indicating direction of the hospital.

 

Bonus 2

  Question: Name four steps you should take if your wheels run off the pavement onto a berm or shoulder.

  Answer: 1. Do not try to jerk the tires immediately back on the road.   

    2. Stop accelerating allow the vehicle to coast to a slower speed.

    3. When the car has slowed, gradually steer back onto the roadway.

    4. As soon as all four wheels are on the pavement, straiten the front

    wheels and proceed with traffic.

 

Bonus 3

  Question: Vehicles slower than traffic flow must drive in which land?     

  Answer: right lane only.

 

Bonus 4

  Question: Name two steps you should take when experiencing a blow out.

  Answer: 1. Do not panic.

    2. Keep your foot off of the accelerator, and net the vehicle coast until

    the engine stops.

(State these facts after they answer question. When the blow out is a rear tire, sudden application to the brakes will set up a “tail sway” which is difficult to control and the vehicle is

likely to turn over.)

 

Bonus 5

 Question: Draw using the proper colors and shape the sign for approaching an intersection where you can only make a lift or right hand turn.

  Answer: A yellow diamond with a black T inside

(A vertical line going up and a horizontal line on the top)
