Description: 4-H military partnerships have expanded rapidly across the country. This session will describe research related to military youth and promising practices for addressing their needs. 4-H Workforce Prep: Real Jobs, Meaningful Experiences, and Marketable Skills

Graham Cochran, Nate Arnett, & Carol Smathers

Description: In two urban settings, Ohio 4-H is providing youth with meaningful job experiences in the context of planned and structured workforce preparation programs designed to help youth develop marketable skills. Learn from staff and teens about two successful workforce prep program models, explore curricula, program strucuture, evaluation strategies, funding sources, and receive a resourcelist related to workforce preparation.

Teamwork and Cultural Literacy for Teens (TCLT)

Nate Arnett, Graham Cochran, Steve Brady, & Beth Bridgeman

Description: For two years, a diverse team of youth adults from Ohio 4-H has built teamwork and cultlural literacy through a series peaking with an immersion experience as a subsistence-level farmer. Participants will learn from teens about a program for teen focusing on teamwork and cultural understanding and receive planning and curriculum information for replicating the program.

Adventure Central: A Research Station for Urban Youth Development

Graham Cochran & Nate Arnett

Descrption: Historically, land-grant research stations have focued on demonstrating successful methods of farming; our focus is on success with urban youth and families. Adventure Central engages youth while providing a "demonstration plot" for urban programming. Program models, evaluation strategies, and lessons learned will be described by a team of teen and adult leaders at the showcase.
