Staff News & Notes - Week of 04.06.09

Hi,

You have to admit, last week was a good week.

I know the air is still filled with anxiety, and the news reports on the “economy” continue to be less than optimistic.  BUT, so far this calendar year, last week may have been the best yet.

First, the Extension Legislative Luncheon/ Reception was held Wednesday with about half of the State Representatives and State Senators in attendance, either in person or via a top aide. This is an excellent level of participation for such an event.  These results, coupled with the many individual legislative visits that Extension Administration has been making for the past few weeks, has reinforced the widespread support of Extension.  Both of these methods involve clientele who tell the first-hand impact that Extension has had on their lives.  Some of the most inspiring are the 4-H Youth and 4-H Advisors.  Their testimonials just make one feel good about being a professional in this organization. The impacts are real.

On Thursday an all-day session was held at the 4-H Center as Extension professionals from each of the nine new EERAs met for the first time under this new staffing structure.  Each EERA group met for at least four hours striving to get everyone on the same page, and doing initial planning. Aside from being the historical event that it was, it is gratifying that our fellow Extension Professionals are taking positive approaches to this new challenge. Sure, there are many unanswered questions, but the atmosphere was optimistic and with some, even enthusiastic. It is hard to think about how this new staffing system will work, and there are still those people with a pessimistic attitude. But I think even those pessimists are realizing that they too had better get on this train before it leaves that station.  Momentum is growing.

Keep doing the good work that you do.  Keep asking those challenging questions. And above all, continue to bring those creative solutions to our attention.  We need everyone’s help.

There are many more good weeks to come!

Thanks,

Tom

Yikes! Price Increase on 711GPM Cloverbud Series II

This doesn’t happen often, but the price of a 4-H publication is being raised mid-year. Publication 711GPM Cloverbud Series II was recently reprinted and the price was increased to cover higher print costs. The old price was $18. It’s now $22.25. Please explain the adjustment to your club leaders. We appreciate their support! Questions? Contact Jane Wright at wright.646@cfaes.osu.edu or 614.292.0909. Thanks!
