Staff News & Notes - Week of 1.28.2008
Dear Colleagues:
Last week several of our colleagues received letters of congratulations as a result of their successful promotion efforts on the Administrative & Professional (A&P) track. Congratulations to the following:
Gwen Soule – Promoted to Educator 3
Connie Goble – Promoted to Educator 3
Janice Hanna – Promoted to Educator 3
Mary Beth Albright – Promoted to Educator 3
Brian Raison – Promoted to Educator 4
Jeff Dick – Promoted to Educator 4
Being promoted in our organization is a result of outstanding effort in your field and the individuals above should be very proud of their accomplishments. For those interested in learning more about the promotion system with Ohio State University Extension, please make sure you attend that session at the upcoming 4-H professionals in-service. There will certainly be some very beneficial suggestions and ideas shared that will help your future efforts.
This week, we want to recognize additional individuals who have helped significantly with the fundraising for the Nationwide & Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center. John Mount has a long history with the 4-H program and is one of our strongest supporters. John was an important part of our successful campaign and he provided great advice throughout the process. Clarence & Jane Cunningham were cheerleaders and strong advocates for the facility and continue to work hard making connections in Ohio and beyond. Both Clarence and Jane have been instrumental in several significant gifts to the building and establishing positive relationships with individuals and foundations. Again, please join us in thanking John, Jane, & Clarence!
Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Ryan & Vicki

General information about the 4-H PetPALS program, preparing youth and pets to become 4-H PetPALS teams, as well as illustrations and information about pet behavior and communication can be found by clicking on the respective links. In addition, by clicking on Pet Testing Videos, the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Test items are explained and accompanied by a video clip of how to execute each of the tests. This link is also great for anyone who plans to take the CGC test with their dog to see what is expected of them. The Socialized PetPALS tests are also explained and accompanied by video clips. Blue Ribbon Youth Enrollment
Re-enrollment forms need to be generated before you do the "Year end process". If you have already performed the roll over process that's ok we can change the data path to your 2007 year end data folder to generate the re-enrollment forms. If you need help to change the data path let me know. When entering member / leader data the duplicate key can be used to enter siblings information. Once I have enter Jane's data you can use the duplicate key to enter her brother Joe's information. The duplicate key will give you an exact copy of Jane's information. You then will just need to change the data for Joe's record. If you need help feel free to give Jim a call or send him an email.
Volunteers to Be Recognized

Bags of Hope Service Project - Ohio 4-H Teen Conference
Bags of Hope: How You Can Help With The Teen Conference Service Project
Master Clothing Educators (MCE's) and State 4-H Fashion Board Members are requesting contributions of fabric, webbing or grosgrain ribbon, and toiletries for “Bags of Hope”, the 2008 4-H Teen Conference Service Project. This year's service project will involve conference participants with little or no sewing experience as well as experienced sewers in using sewing machines to make great-looking tote bags. The bags will then be filled with toiletries and children items and donated to battered women's shelters in central Ohio. Participants will also receive instructions for organizing similar service projects in their own communities. Here is what's needed:
- Each large bag will require:
- two pieces of fabric cut 13 inches by 18 inches, plus
- 28 inches of webbing or grosgrain ribbon for handles.
- Each small bag will require:
- two pieces of fabric cut 13 inches by 9 inches, plus
- 24 inches of webbing or grosgrain ribbon for handles.
- Toiletries and items needed by those in women's shelters are also requested to fill the bags (small child-safe toys, coloring books and crayons, pencils, cards, stencil books, soap, shampoo, conditioner, combs & brushes, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, cotton swabs, lotion, socks, travel tissues, etc.)
Please forward this information to your 4-H teens, 4-H volunteers, 4-H clothing project advisors, FCS groups, and others who may be interested. It will be helpful if fabric contributions are pre-cut to the measurements indicated before they're donated. All contributions may be brought directly to the February 16 Teen Conference, given to a Master Clothing Educator or Fashion Board Member, or sent ahead of time to Kathy Cox at the State 4-H Office (Office # 417), 2201 Fred Taylor Drive, Columbus, OH 43210.
