4-H Program at Wright Patterson Air Force Base

The 4-H program at Wright Patterson Air Force Base began in 2002 and continues to grow. The goal is to provide predictable, consistent youth programs so military youth can become involved in 4-H and can continue their 4-H work wherever they move.

Background
The National 4-H Headquarters at Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service (CSREES) http://www. national4-hheadquarters.gov at the U.S. Department of Agriculture has several partnerships in place to extend the exciting world of 4-H to U.S. military youth around the world. The goal is for military youth to become involved in 4-H and to be able to continue their 4-H work wherever they move when their parents are transferred or deployed.

State 4-H Military Liaisons http://www.usda-army-ydp.org/contact_liaisons.html have been named in each state to support the work that CSREES/4-H is doing with the U.S. Army Child & Youth Services and the U.S. Air Force Family Member Programs, as well as to reach out to the Army and Air National Guards and Reserve Units.

Ohio is the home of one military installation - Wright Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB). Located east of Dayton , OH , the base is situated in two counties (Greene and Montgomery). WPAFB has the third largest services program in the Air Force. Ohio 4-H Youth Development received a 4-H Military Grant to support this program expansion effort in 2003-2004.
