Make A Difference Day Ohio : 4-H Lends a Hand

Richard B.
and

Nancy E. Stahl Family

Community Service Grant

Ohio 4-H members, parents, and volunteers can join over 3 million people across America and lend a helping hand through a 4-H Community Service Project on October 28, 2006. As a result of the generosity of the Richard B. and Nancy E. Stahl Family Fund we are able to announce a special grant opportunity available to the 4-H community. Grants between $250 and $750 for a total of $6,000 will be awarded for Ohio 4-H projects to be conducted as a part of Make A Difference Day Ohio on Saturday, October 28, 2006.

This year is the 15th annual Make A Difference Day, sponsored by USA WEEKEND Magazine and the Points of Light Foundation. Six years ago, Ohio adopted this national day of service as its own and has led the nation ever since in the total number of service projects. Honorary Make A Difference Day Ohio Co-Chairs, Hope Taft, First Lady of Ohio, and Jim Tressel, Head Football Coach, The Ohio State University, team up with the Ohio Community Service Council and the statewide MDDO Steering Committee to support and promote this day of service. Ohio State University Extension and Ohio 4-H Youth Development encourages 4-H groups across Ohio to “join the team” and make a difference in your community.

Groups who receive a 4-H grant will:

  • Conduct a project on Make A Difference Day – October 28, 2006. Some projects may require some of the service to be completed before or after October 28 but at least a portion must be completed as a part of Make A Difference Day.
  • Actively involve 4-H members in the planning and conducting the community service project.
  • Participate in an orientation conference call where details of the grant distribution process will be shared.
  • Agree to conduct a community service educational lesson as a part of their implementation.
  • Complete a project impact report by November 15, 2006.
  • Agree to send representatives to a State Celebration meeting on Saturday, December 2, 2006 in Columbus. This celebration will include highlights of the service project and a summary of what the group learned.
