Ohio 4-H Announces Achievement Award and Scholarship Winners
Awards and scholarships valued at over $92,000 were presented to 4-H youth on June 2nd at the 2010 Achievement Awards and Scholarship banquet. The youth came from 39 counties throughout Ohio to attend the banquet held at the Nationwide and Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center on The Ohio State University campus. In all, 59 4-H’ers were recognized for their outstanding accomplishments.
Over $63,000 in college scholarships were presented to 33 youth from across Ohio. More than 455 4-H members competed to receive these scholarships based on their leadership, community service, academic standings, and 4-H involvement and achievements. The scholarships are made possible by donors who recall how 4-H made a difference in their lives and want to provide a gateway to higher education for Ohio youth.
In addition, 24 youth earned Ohio 4-H Achievement Awards and will travel to Atlanta, Georgia this fall to represent Ohio at the National 4-H Congress. These outstanding youth will join 4-H members from across the nation to learn and practice citizenship, leadership and service skills. To earn this honor, these youth competed against over 350 4-H members, between the ages of 14 and 18, who completed an extensive application listing their accomplishments in: 4-H project work, 4-H participation, major 4-H honors, 4-H community service and citizenship, 4-H leadership and non 4-H experiences in their school, church and community.
Two more awards complete the banquet program. The Dairy Farmers of America Mideast Council and COBA/Select Sires, Inc. are sponsoring two 4-H members to attend the National 4-H Dairy Conference in Madison, Wisconsin this fall. The Ohio Dairy Goat Association is sponsoring four youth to attend the Ohio Dairy Goat Conference in Columbus, Ohio. Winners were selected based on their record of achievement in the area of dairy.
